Choosing the Right Tech Stack for Your Web App

The best stack is the one your team can maintain confidently for years, not the one with the most stars this month.

Stack decisions get treated like technology choices, but they're really longevity decisions. The question isn't "what's capable of building this" — almost any modern stack is. It's "what will still be maintainable, hireable-for, and boring in three years."

Start from your actual constraints: expected traffic and scale, the skills already on your team or easy to hire for, and how the app needs to integrate with what you already run. A stack chosen for a hypothetical future scale you may never reach usually costs more than the problem it solves.

Favor proven, well-documented technology over the newest option, especially for anything load-bearing — authentication, payments, data storage. Novelty is fine at the edges of a system; it's expensive at the core.

We default to a small set of technologies we can stand behind for the long run rather than picking a new stack per project — consistency here is what makes a system maintainable after the people who built it move on to other work.
